Statement on Postal Service’s New Financial Services Offerings

October 5, 2021, Washington, D.C. – INFiN, a Financial Services Alliance, issued the following statement, attributable to executive director Ed D’Alessio, about new financial services offerings the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is currently piloting at select locations:

“INFiN members provide consumers with ready access to financial services, offering a growing array of regulated products and services – from check cashing and money transfer to credit options and bill payment – across our storefronts and online. While INFiN welcomes the U.S. Postal Service into the competitive consumer financial services marketplace, recognizing that consumers benefit from more choices, it should not be at the expense of an equitable regulatory playing field: Comparable products and their providers must be regulated under the same rules that govern nearly every aspect of our members’ business.

We are confident consumers will continue to choose INFiN members when seeking cost-effective, regulated financial solutions, valuing the convenience, reliability, privacy, and transparency – not to mention superior customer service – they are unlikely to experience from other providers, including the Postal Service.”
